Wakai & Mick Jenkins Are The Duo You Need To Hear On "When There Was No Sun"

Wakai is next in line. Up now, perhaps, as the Baton Rouge native has undergone exponential growth over the past two months. Wakai's intricate lyricism meets refreshing sounds, and consistency has already proven true over the short-spanned course of his releases. Coming off his most successful release to date, Wakai has now outperformed those numbers with his newest offering in just over 72 hours, a stunt that shouldn't interpret lightly. This song comes in collaboration with Mick Jenkins, and the two deliver an illuminating voyage on "When There Was No Sun."

"When There Was No Sun" sees the Louisana artist right back in his unique bag of flows and punctual delivery, two characteristics that come front-and-center on every offering to date. Wakai lays a philosophical chorus, stating, "When there was no sun, I found another source within." Wakai lays a verse full of impressively complex writing and rhyme schemes, all of which glue together so well. Mick Jenkins read the room perfectly with his poetry, following suit for more complex lyricism and a complementing flow.

It's no surprise this collab works, as both artists are pros of their techniques that enhance the next. Stream this exciting new collab below, and be on the lookout for Wakai's new album To a Dark Boy coming this year.
