Van Buren Records Add To Their Dynamic Year With Black Wall Street EP
Van Buren Records is one of the most exciting hip-hop groups out. It's hard to match the energy, rawness, and authenticity of the Brockton-based artists. The individuality that each member brings is what makes Van Buren so electrifying. I think of it like a puzzle; everyone’s piece contains different shaped edges, but they all connect to complete the image and sound that is Van Buren. After finding themselves on their debut album Bad for Press, Van Buren Records continues to build on their gritty foundation with the release of Black Wall Street.
The new project includes five tracks, each delivering the feelings you can only get from Van Buren, and every member plays their part. Jiles has a way of vigorously pulling in listeners. Luke Bar$ comes with his addicting and almost indescribable sound. SAINT LYOR brings great energy and somehow makes everyone around him sound better. FELIX! can't miss every time he touches a verse. Meech BOLD's lyricism and delivery are never lacking. Everyone adds to the sound, and together they create a seemingly unstoppable force.
Every song on the new EP is worth a listen, packed with the distinctive fierce and muddy sounds Van Buren supplies. Track four, "FOXY BROWN," stands out to me. Bars are traded perfectly, and lyrics connect from one rapper to the next. We also get a glimpse of some personality traits. On top of this, everyone freestyled their verse, making the song even more impressive.
The EP features Jazz Cartier, whose verse on "CULT" welds excellently into the world of Van Buren. Production is handled by AzizTheShake, who provides some potent beats to pair with the group's energy. After hearing how this project turned out, I’m sure we will hear more collaborations from the producer and Van Buren in the future.
