Unusual Demont Conveys Emotion Through Color On Debut EP ‘HUES.’
Music and color have always had some relativity; but unless you have a form of synesthesia, it's not always easy to associate a sound with color. Lucky for you, Unusual Demont is here to help with his new EP, HUES. This project connects songs to color, and will easily hold your ear's interest for the entire 26-minute run time. After many listens, I'll say this is an outstanding EP and one of the best I've heard all year.
Unusual Demont's HUES is a delectable montage of music, color, and feelings. Each track title represents a hue that seamlessly conjoins with the music heard. Listening to this project is like opening a pack of crayons, and each one you pull from the box gives you a burst of emotions and new feelings. A conceptual project of this quality is a precious exhibition that should not be neglected, especially in 2021.
Half of HUES consists of previously released singles, but hearing them in the context of this EP brings new life to these songs. For example, the intro track, "VANTA," was already incredible as a standalone single, but now sitting next to "IVORY," listeners experience a tuneful transition from super-black to off-white. "IVORY" portrays this off-white tincture perfectly with soft and whistful vocals, graceful guitar strums, and lustrous synths. Listeners then get a touch of "GOLD," a bouncy track with glimmering drums, pads, and lyrics about unanswered questions of love. The following three tracks, "AMBER," "PINE," and "PURPLE," are all previously released singles, but again, the presentation and order of these songs complete Unusual Demont's vibrant concept. On track seven, "DAFFODIL," listeners become caressed in a loving atmosphere of yellow-green. The final composition, "BLUSH," ties the entire theme together in the most sentimental tone heard on the EP.
From my understanding and analysis, each track and color represents different situations and feelings Unusual Demont had encountered in a failing relationship and low point in his life. The upcoming artist beautifully expresses these emotions with the listener through both color and music. This entire EP is truly a moving and emotionally provoking experience.
