“those days of just being free and loving this shit are still the same place I create from."

We spoke with see.francis about his upbringing, inspiration, and new music. Learn more about the artist’s life and music below.

Where are you from?

"Newark, New Jersey. But I get around."

When and why did you start creating music?

"Lowkey music has been a day 1 forever thing in my life given my family and everything but I really fell in love with it just riding around with my uncle Keith listening to everything from Redman to Fela Kuti and back. The why is forever changing but as of today, I’m just trying to talk to and make shit for the people that use music like a crutch sometimes to get thru the day."

How did your upbringing impact your art?

"I grew up quick, with love but definitely quick. I’ve seen, done, and been through a little bit of everything. After my pops was killed it was just me and my moms and shit was tough like mentally or whatever. I needed someone to talk to but I had no idea what to even say so i just started writing how i was feeling down and here we are.

How did you develop your skillset?

"My mom got me a karaoke machine one Christmas and she worked the day shift lol i had every nigga in the world in her crib that wanted to record a freestyle. It was musty and we was smoking a lot of kid but those days of just being free and loving this shit are still the same place I create from."

What was the inspiration behind “Isabella?”

"Isabella is a place where you can find great weed like 24/7 out here, it’s also my daughter's name. I was on a flight back home looking out the window from out west and was thinking about needing weed and missing her cuz it had been a while and before I knew it the homie had picked me up from the airport we were on Isabella getting some loud and I was on FaceTime with my Isabella. Kinda put itself together after that. Shout out to my guys Black Jab and Johan Lenox for helping me put that one together too."

What part of the music industry needs to be fixed? What parts are good/ advantageous to artists?

"Honestly, I don’t even be knowing lol. Like I know there’s some music business 101 shit I can say but today's problems ain't tomorrow's and one man's issues ain't the next man’s. I don’t know I just be on my own time. The best thing part of all this is as much as some of these rooms and opportunities seem far away we have the internet and google and YouTube university. When you mix all the nerd stuff with actually going outside, connecting with people, and then add some wild shit in like having a purpose, you’ll be aight."

Who would you like to work with in the future (producers/artists)?

"Real talk I’m trying to work with anyone that’s really trying to work or do some undeniable shit. If I gotta make a list of actual names somebody link me with Ye."

What motivates you to keep creating?

"Life."

Do you have any other artistic outlets?

"I’m into a little bit of everything on the creative side or whatever but right now my focus is on putting in my 10k hours into music."

What is your definition of success?

"For me, it’s doing what I love the way I love it. Corny as hell but it is what it is."

How can we stay up to date with your work?

"I’m @seefrvncis everywhere. Just hit me."
