There will alway be naysayers lurking around the corner, no matter how talented and hardworking you are. Lacey Jackson, a skilled rapper from Ohio, acknowledges this reality on his new standout album.

Building on the success of his last album, “Forever Loading,” Jackson continues to captivate his audience through an engaging social media presence. He also dropped an incredibly hard-hitting track called “Opps” in March. The anticipation for his new record wasn’t in vain. Jackson finds plenty of space in the album’s soulful instrumentals to share heartfelt stories about faith, grinding for success, ignoring self-doubt and detractors, and navigating grief.

The first song, "Actin' Like A," is a strong introduction. Jackson reflects on times he didn't believe in himself, and he encourages people pursuing their passion not to run from challenges. The next song, "2010," is a powerful track that sees Jackson reflect on the trauma of losing his mother as a child. Though he "tried to find in her in 2010," Jackson is thankful to be alive. Surviving those traumatic events enabled him to have a promising future, one that includes being a proud father of two daughters and a gifted rapper whose songs truly resonate with his fanbase.

Jackson’s motivational message remains strong throughout the album. He also showcases great confidence through clever lines and sports references. Songs like "Prime & Irvin" and "We Want It Too" are great examples of this. Jackson has found a great balance between rapping and singing, switching between sharp jabs and impassioned vocals.

Jackson’s effort on the first half continues through the last leg of the album. His acclaimed single, "Opps," is a perfect fit in the context of the album. He stresses the importance of loyalty and reflects on how far he's come in his career. This guides listeners into the themes of the next song as well. "Bro Told Me" is a celebration of Jackson's wins, ones that his brother saw coming years ago. His brother believed a better future was ahead of them, so they were able to avoid the pitfalls of living a fast life. The album ends on a excellent closer, "Favorite." This song sees Jackson taking a victory lap with his team. He made it out of the struggle through dedication to his craft, and now he can proudly say he's his own favorite rapper. The grind was surely worth it.
